Solomon Abbott served with Roebuck's Regiment, South Carolina Militia during the American Revolution.
Solomon Abbott was the son of William Abbott & Mary Sarah Dennard. He enlisted in the South Carolina Militia in Spartanburg under Captain Dennis Tromwell and Colonel John Thomas, jr., and Gen. Pickens. He also served under Capt. John Mapp and Col. Roebuck and later joined Gen. Greene. He was in the Battle of Cowpens under General Morgan. By the year 1780, he had served two years & one months in all. He was discharged in the fall of 1781 and served for the rest of the war as a minuteman volunteer, in said district.
In about 1796 Solomon married Phoebe Turner and they settled in Spartanburg, South Carolina where they remained until their deaths.

Solomon Abbott was a private soldier in the Revolutionary War under General Morgan. He enlisted 7 Oct 1780 at Spartanburg, South Carolina, under Captain Dennis Trammell (Tromwell) and Colonel Thomas. He was in the battle of Cowpens under General Morgan when the war was over; he drew a pension of .33 per annum. Solomon Abbott was one of the oldest citizens of Spartanburg County South Caroliina, having entered a large estate under King George. He was one of the last Revolutionary soldiers to die in Spartanbourg County. He died 9 Nov 1857 and was buried with military honors by the Morgan Rifles. Solomon Abbot also served with Francis Marion (Swamp Fox).[1]
Solomon died on July 15, 1856, the longest living Revolutionary War Veteran of Spartanburg County, South Carolina. He was buried with military honors by the "Morgan Rifles" at Abbott Cemetery in Cherokee Springs, Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA. [2]
