Simon Abbott immigrated from England to the Maryland Colony in 1651. His wife, Maudelin, and daughter, Deborah, also made the journey across the Atlantic ocean.

Upon settling in the New World, the Abbott family gave birth to another daughter, Dorcas Abbott, in about 1658.
Shortly thereafter, Simon Abbott died, leaving his wife, Maudelin, with two young daughters to raise.
Maudelin Abbott remarried twice after the death of her first husband, Simon Abbott.
