Biography

Sir Anthony Abdy was baptized on 18 October 1579. He was the son of Roger Abdy and Mary (White) Abdy. He married Abigail Campbell, daughter of Sir Thomas Campbell, on 14 August 1610 at St. Mary, Aldermary, London, England, United Kingdom. He died on 10 September 1640 at age of 60. He served as an Alderman of the City of London. He was a director of the Honorable East India Company Service in 1617. He held the office of Sheriff of London from 1630 to 1631. He was Deputy Governor of the Honorable East India Company Service in 1639.[1]

On the death of his father in 1595 he inherited lands at Colliers Row, Havering atte Bower, Havering, London, England, United Kingdom and property in Red Lion Gate, London, England, United Kingdom. He lived on Lime Street, City of London, England, United Kingdom in the house where William Dockwra’s Penny Post was established in 1680. He was a member of the Worshipful Company of Clothworkers and served as its Master in 1632. In 1630 he purchased the Felix Hall estate in Essex, which was bequeathed to his eldest son, Thomas. He was buried in St Andrew Undershaft Churchyard, London, England, United Kingdom.[2]
