Biography

Joyce L. Ables was born on Apr 16, 1931 in Lexington, Holmes, Mississippi, USA as a child of Marvin Ables and Thelma McLean.

She died on Sep 14, 2010 in Raymond, Hinds, Mississippi, USA (River Oaks Hospital; Age at Death: 79).

When she was 18, she married John Robinson Bishop Jr, son of John Robinson Bishop Sr and Bettie E Turner, on Dec 25, 1949 in Covington County, Mississippi, USA. [1]

She was buried in Magee, Simpson, Mississippi, USA (Magee Cemetery). [2]

John Robinson Bishop Jr and Joyce L. Ables had the following children:

Obituary

Joyce L. Bishop, 79, passed away Tuesday September 14, 2010, at River Oaks Hospital after a brief illness.

Visitation is 5-7pm today at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Jackson. Funeral services are 10:00am Thursday, September 16, 2010, in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at 1:30pm in Magee Cemetery, Magee, MS.

Joyce was born in Lexington on April 16, 1931 to Marvin and Thelma McLean Ables. She moved to Mendenhall after the death of her parents, where she met the love of her life, John Bishop, Jr. from Magee. They were married for 52 years. John preceded her in death in 2002.

She is survived by her two loving sisters, Loraine Holley and Evelyn Wilson, sons Johnny (Susan) Bishop of Raymond, Edwin (Annette) Bishop of Richland, and Kelly Bishop of Raymond; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She also leaves behind a number of nieces and nephews she loved very much.

Joyce was employed for many years with Mississippi College where she served as postmistress and enjoyed getting to know students and faculty. Joyce was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Raymond, where she was very close to the pastor, his family and the church family. She also leaves behind many close friends at Faithview Baptist and Midway Baptist churches in Jackson. Joyce loved studying the Bible, and was an excellent Sunday School teacher for most of her adult life. She loved visiting with her close friends, and spending time with her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Memorials may be made to the Youth Building Fund at First Baptist Church of Raymond. [3]
