Note: There were two girls named Mary Washington Adams, and they were first cousins, a few years different in age. Early on, as was the case in many families in eastern Hanover County, the girls were known by nicknames. The daughter of William Adams went by the name "Lillian" and the daughter of John Temple Adams went by the name "Mollie."
