Notes
Note N47Leased lands at Pollaughan. On the 1851, 1861 & 1881 censuses.
Land had been previously leased by John Harris who was listed with a Maria
Adams, "wife of a farmer", (1841 census).
A History of the Parish of Gerrans 1800-1914 - Part 1 - Farms and Farmers by Hilary Thompson
p.56
Pollaughan - "The 1841 census records John Harris, farmer, at Pollaughan, with Maria Adams, wife of a farmer, with two agricultural labourers and two female servants. Ten years later James Adams, born at Perranzabuloe, was installed at Pollaughan with his wife, a female servant and a farm servant, farming 182 acres and employing six labourers. By 1861 James Adams's acreage had increased to 200. By 1881 John Lobb had married Elizabeth Adams and was farming there,..."
p.65
Tregairwoon - "The censuses from 1841 to '91 record a succession of agricultural labourers living at the farm. In 1853 when the lands were surveyed in preparation for transfer from the Bishop to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, the Johns family still held the lease - at that time Richard Johns and Richard Pendarves Johns. It was then sub-leased to James Adams, who also farmed Pollaughan, where he resided. The cottage was described by the Ecclesiastical Commissioners in 1853 as 'a very poor farm...badly managed...there is no house upon it fit for the residence of a tenant, the cottage near the farm buildings is occupied by a Labourer, the present tenant resides on an adjoining farm."
p. 11
"At Pollaughan the arrival of the Adamses occasioned a rise in acreage from 49 in 1841 to 182 in '51 and subsequently 200. While the additional acreages no doubt represent much land within the parish of Gerrans it is likely that the farmers' interests spread beyond the bounds into St. Just and Philleigh."

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
