Biography

Peter Adams was a immigrant to Virginia, transport of John Hanfoid ? of Gloucester County ,Virginia.[1]

Peter is listed several times in the Surry Co. Virginia Tithables,1668-1703.[2]


In 1663, Peter ADAMS was a neighbor of Stephen TARLETON and William PULLIAM on Black Creek in York county, Virginia Virginia Land Patent Book No. 5, page 246 Stephen TARLETON patented "394 acres on the north branch of Black CREEK [Originally Black Creek was in York County, Virginia; at some point York was divided into New Kent County and Black Creek fell into New Kent.], next to the lands of Peter ADAMS, due by purchase from Henry BATEMAN in 1663, who had purchased the land from PULLIAM [probably William PULLIAM who was also living on Black Creek] out of the 100 acres in 1657."[3]

Peter received 1500 acres of land . Where unknown? (See page 58 of source.)[4]

In 1679 Robert Blackwell purchased 180 acres from Anne Adams,wife of Peter Adams.(See page 68 of source.)[5]

Peter passed away, May 10,1687, Surry,Virginia.[6]

James Adams son of Peter Adams dec'd 650 acres,decending to him by Act of Law.(see page 68 of source.)[7]

ADAMS, Peter: Leg.- Bequeaths to son Thomas Adams a tract of land which did belong to Samuel Clements, 170 acres. To son, William Adams the tract of land I now live on. If either of my sons should depart this life without lawful issue, or both die without lawful issue, all my lands are to be divided between my three daughters, Mary, Eliza, and Susannah. Gives bequest to sons and daughters various household furnishings, feather beds, furniture, pewter dishes, pots, pans, etc. Gives to son Thomas twenty shillings in the hands of Joan Bagly, 26 lb. 6 d. in the charge of a law suit in the hands of Thos, Howell. Bequeaths a negro to son Thomas - an exchange of slaves and to go to Thomas when Thomas is sixteen and William have a negro girl bought for him and all my children be for themselves.at sixteen years and enjoy their Estates. My two sons Thomas and William to be put in school till they can read and wright very well. My desire is that my three daughters, Mary, Eliza, and Susannah have the use of my Plantation until my son Thos. is sixteen, if they stay single, but if they marry that they immediately go off and my son, Thomas, then have the Plantation untill my son William is sixteen years old, I give my wife, Ann and five children, Mary, Eliza. Susannah, Thos. and William all the rest of my Estate to be equally divided. Makes wife, Ann, Exerx. Wit: William Edwards, Samuel Judkins. D.: 21 March, 1734. P.: 17 March, 1735. Book 8, p. 574.
