Melba N. Roman
Mrs. Melba N. Roman, 40, died Saturday, May 3, very suddenly at a local hospital. She had been a Coachella Valley resident for 18 years and the family resides at 81-741 Avenue 50. She is survived by her husband, Henry Marvin Roman; four children, Della, Daniel, Ralph and Thelma and two stepsons: Henry and Robert. She also leaves two grandchildren, eight brothers and sisters and her mother. Two sisters and a brother and her father preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in Indio with the Rev. Ben Johnson and Harvey Whiteanach officiating. Interment will follow in the Coachella Valley Cemetery under the direction of Fitz Henry Funeral Home. Pall bearers will be: Elvin Dunn, Arthur Fly, Gordon Edmisten, James Farrow, Glen Woodward and Richard Ransbarger. Should friends desire, contributions may be made to the Cancer Fund, the family started.
Last Rites Held For Mrs. M. Roman Last rites were held Wednesday mourning, May 7, at the Church of the Nazarene in Indio, Calif. for Melba Adams Roman conducted by the Rev. Ben Johnson and Rev. Harvey Witeanach. Pallbearers were: Arthur Fly, Gordon Edmisten, Glen Woodward, Richard Ransbarger, Elvin Dun and James Farrow. Interment was made in the Coachella Valley Cemetery. Mrs. Roman was born at Wessington Springs, S.D., Sept. 27, 1917, one of 12 children of Alden and Nellie Adams. She married Henry Marvin Roman in October of 1941 at Indio, Calif. Melba received her common school education in Hughes Co. and graduated from Canning High School and the following spring she moved to California where she enrolled in Pasadena College. She taught school in and around Indio and at the time of her death was manager of the snack bar at Indio High School. She was preceded in death by her father Alden Adams, brother, Alden, Jr. and two sisters, Eileen Rose and Mrs. Henry Krull (Lucille). Melba is survived by her husband, Marvan, 4 children, Della Louise, 15; Daniel Howard, 14; Ralph Edward, 11 and Thelma Jean6; two step-sons, Robert and Jasper, and two step-grandchildren. Her mother, Nellie Adams of Blunt; 4 brothers, Rev. Kenneth of El Reno, Okla.; Merywn of Kingston, Wash.; Chancey and Neil of Blunt; 4 sisters, Mrs. Henry Krull (Lois), Harrold; Mrs. Arthur Mason (Veryl), Ozark, Ark.; her twin sister, Mrs. Oliver Wright (Nelma), Blunt; and Mrs. J.W. Long (Clarice), Cedartown, Ga. Melba was a member of the Nazarene Church of Indio, Calif. and a devoted supporter of her church. Melba was a kind and loving mother and wife and a good neighbor. She under went a cancer operation last July and seemed to have recovered from it. But about four weeks ago she had the flu and seemed to be unable to recover from it and on Saturday morning, May 3rd she became very ill and was taken to the Indio Hospital where her condition was termed serious and she passed away that evening at the age of 40 years, 7 months, 6 days. Those attending from afar were: her mother Nellie Adams of Blunt; her brothers Merwyn of Kingston, Wash. and Neil of Blunt; her sisters, her twin sister Mrs. Oliver Wright of Blunt and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Krull of Harrold; Penny Wright, Blunt; Mrs. L.E. Acker, Tyler, Tex., Mr and Mrs. Jasper Roman, and Red Roman all of Los Angeles, Calif.
