Biography
John was born at Townhouse in Milton Abbott in 1843. He was baptised that same year, and his birth was registered in Tavistock.[1][2][3][4] John's parents were John Adams (Gamekeeper) and Elizabeth Jane Spry.
In 1851, he was living with his family in Tavistock.[5]
In 1861, John (aged 17) was living with his parents in Newbridge, where he and brother William were working as copper miners.[6]
He emigrated to New Zealand in 1863, in search of gold in Otago. He settled in Maerewhenua in 1889 and became a farmer.[7][8]
