From later census information, John Adams was born around 1804-06 in Elmswell, Suffolk. I can't find a matching birth record for Elmswell, and there are multiple possibilities for John Adams of about the right age from further afield in Suffolk. The closest geographically is a baptism on the 18th of April 1807 (born 29 Jul 1806) at St Nicholas Rattlesden (about 5 miles from Elmswell), to parents John Adams and Sarah Nunn.[1] Though if this is the correct John Adams, it would mean he was only 17 years old when he married.
John Adams married Susan Parfrey on the 13th of October 1823, in Elmswell.[2] The couple had their first child, Robert, in 1824, and he was baptised on the 30th of May 1824 at St Andrews Tostock.[3]
Daughter Eliza was born in 1836, and baptised on the 8th of May 1836 in Elmswell, Suffolk.[4]
In 1841[5] John and Susan lived in Garden House, Elmswell, with children Robert, Maryann, Harriett, Sarahann, Susannah, Eliza, John and George. John was an agricultural labourer.
In 1851[6] the family still lived in Elmswell, with resident children Harriett, Eliza, John, George, Jane, and Susan. John was a coal porter.
John died in 1860 and was buried on the 9th of December at St John the Divine, Elmswell. [7]
