Born in Bennington, Bennington, Vermont, USA on 11 Jul 1789 to Henry Adams and Joanna Tryon. Zebulon married Minervia Collins and had 7 children. He passed away in 1865 in Logan, Illinois, USA.

After Minerva's 1864 death he may have remarried, to Margaret McCain, on 15 Oct 1865 in Logan County, Illinois.^[3]

His estate was probated in Logan County, Illinois on 25 Nov 1865. The death date given in the administration documentation is "on or about" the 30th of October, 1865, not the 8th of May 1865 at given above, which appears to have been drawn from a secondary source.^[4] He died intestate, and his sons Oliver J. Adams and Elisha H. Adams were appointed administrators. There is nothing on his gravestone itself to indicate a date, and a number of family trees on Ancestry.com give a death date of 29 Oct 1865.
