Biography

Parmenio Adams, son of Daniel Adams, was born 22 Jan 1747/48.[1][2][3]

Parmenio Adams served in the Revolutionary War and his name appears in a list of Simsbury men on the "Returns of Men in Service" from Continental Regiments in 1775. He served in the 4th company of Capt. Elihu Humphrey in Huntington's Eighth Connecticut Regiment from 12 July to 18 Dec. 1775. He also served in Lt. Job Case's Company of the 18th Connecticut Regiment 24 Aug. to 25 Sept. 1776. In the the Census of 1790 Parmenio Adams was listed in the Town of Duanesburg, Albany (now Schenectady) Co. NY. In 1793 he was commissioned a lieutenant in Capt. Asiah Tower's company of Albany Co. in Lt. Col. Johannes Deitz's Regiment in General Peter Gansevoort's Brigade of New York Militia, but in 1797 his lieutenancy was given to Frederick Wood as Adams had "removed." About 1795 Parmenio Adams settled in Onondaga Co., N.Y., in that part of the Town of Marcellus which later became the Town of Skaneateles. About 1806 he removed to the Town of Lysander in the same county. At the first Lysander town meeting of which there are exiting records, held on the first Tuesday in April 1808, Parmenio Adams was chosen overseer of highways for the 1st ward of the Town of Lysander. Parmenio Adams was "a physician of sorts, which probably meant quinine, leeches, and bleeding, the district being at that time highly malarial. He also pulled teeth, and his savage forceps are still [1936] in existence."

Parmenio married 1st Salina ________ before 1793. [2] He married 2nd Chloe Nearing 07 May 1772 Simsbury CT or New York State.[4][2] He died 18 Mar 1809 Lysander, Onondaga Co., NY.[2]
