Nancy Adams,[1] who married Charles Lewis, was born 1788 at Roaring River, NC and died after 1840 in Perry, KY.[2]
"Easter and Nancy Adams both were married about 1804, apparently in Wilkes County, to William Williams and Charles Lewis, respectively. The only trace of Williams in Wilkes County is on March 15, 1805? when he witnessed a deed. On the other hand, nineteen year old Lewis received a gift of a 350-acre tract from his father, George Lewis, on July 30, 1799 (Wilkes Deeds Fl:24). Both the Williams and Lewis couples appear to have settled in Floyd County prior to 1810, when they are found in the census.
Both couples resided in Floyd County until Perry County was formed.
Charles and Nancy (Adams) Lewis lived on the road which was built between 1813 and 1815 to Rockhouse Fork. In l8l4, Lewis himself was surveyor for the road from Millstone to the Cumberland Mountains. On February 14, 1821 (Floyd Annals, Page 264; MR Bonds}, he consented to the marriage of his young daughter, Sarah Lewis, to Abijah Brown, Charles Lewis also is found in Perry County tax lists and the I83O Census. However, his family may have moved to Montgomery County, Indiana, for on April 24, 1832, his land in Perry County was sold to John Holbrook. " [3]
