Biography

Elizabeth was the last child born to Robert and Sarah Adamson on 8 Nov 1880 in Armaugh, Ireland [1] Elizabeth Adamson is listed as a drapers assistant, age 20 and single in the 1901 Census living as a boarder in Newry along with her brother Gilbert. [2] By 1911 (census), Elizabeth is living at the Adamson farm in Maghernahely with her brother John (who inherited the farm from their father). John is listed as single. Elizabeth is listed as single but has 3 children, William, Albert and Frances, all with surname Adamson. [3] According to birth records on GRONI, the birth certificates of all 4 of Lizzzies children show her as the mother, surname Adamson and no fathers name listed. In 1909, Lizzie took a trip to the US listing her sister Maggie Thompson in Fall River as her destination [4]. She would have had 2 children at the time, but they are not listed as passengers. Elizabeth is not listed on the 1910 Fall River census as a visitor, so presumably she had returned home by 1910. Her sister Margarets 1948 obituary shows Elizabeth still living in Belfast in 1948, but I believe "Belfast" is used as a generic term for all of Northern Ireland (Maggie is listed as having come from Belfast as well). During World War 2, Lizzies daughter Francis and her son spent the war years in Bessbrook with Lizzie. Lizzie is described as a very intelligent, articulate, and well read woman who was very respected in the town of Bessbrook. Lizzie died in Newry, Armaugh, Northern Ireland on 20 March 1953 . Her death certificate lists her as single.
