DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Sherod by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Sherod:
I proposed a merge into the surname of Adkins which was already here. He never used or was documented with the surname Harley. Also DNA evidence proves a different surname if I’m not mistaken and Harley has been debunked.
It was Jacob Stover who DNA has tied to Sherrod. Records can be found that he lived across the river from Mary and her family and built a bridge over the river that connected his property to that of Mary’s father.
Tension between William Atkinson and Jacob Stover would have high because William’s source of wealth was the mill he had and Jacob built a competing mill.
Harley-1962 and Adkins-433 appear to represent the same person because: There is no such person with Harley as a last name. It was always Adkins. The mother never married and WikiTree goes by last name at birth and what appears in records. The rest should be in a note in the bio.
Harley-1962 and Adkins-433 appear to represent the same person because: They need to be merged to get rid of the Harley name. See note on Harley profile. They are the same person with Harley created incorrectly and the only way to get rid of profile is to merge.
Sarah Lucas is married to both Sherrod’s. I assume info on the Harley profile may likely be incorrect since they are showing a known to be wrong surname.
Adkins-2797 and Adkins-433 do not represent the same person because: It looks like there were two Sherrod's-- one born about 1765, son of Mary Atkins (and her unknown husband); the other son of Mary's supposed brother, Parker, b abt 1771. But which is represented in the 1850 census?
The one that died in 1858 has his estate inventoried on 27 Nov 1858 and it shows Archibald Adkins as the executor. That would be the same on as on the 1850 census
Christena m(2) 11 Feb. 1798 in Montgomery Co. Sherrod B. Adkins s/o Parker and Mary (# 127), her 1st cousin. Between 1810-1815 Christena and Sherrod joined their brothers and sisters in the Beech Fork area of Cabell (Wayne) Co. Va. (W.Va.) and made their home near Christen's brother Sherrod.
Christena d 1822 and is buried at the old family cemetery near the mouth of Bowen's Creek. Sherrod B. has often been confused with Christena's brother, Sherrod (136) they were near the same age, 1st cousins, lived in close prosimity and died within five years of each other making it extremely easy for older family members and researchers to mistake them. Some facts that may help others to discern between the two follow:
Sherrod B. was living in the household of his son, Archibald in the first (1850) census of Wayne Co. W.Va.
His death certificate in Wayne Co. 1859 states that he was son of Parker and Mary
His will proven same year leaves one dollar to each of Archibald's children (Archibald had d 1856).
Sherrod s/o Mary had d also in 1856 so that Sherrod B's death in 1859 with certificate stating he was son of Parker and Mary, will leaving one dollar to each of Archibald's children and his being buried beside of Christena clearly proves the distinction between the two.
Tension between William Atkinson and Jacob Stover would have high because William’s source of wealth was the mill he had and Jacob built a competing mill.
Ronnie Adkins book mentions the following children:
