EXPERIENCE: 2004 – 2008 DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR: iSky. Laurel, MD. Performed complete range of DBA activities including installation, configuration, and upgrading of 21 Oracle7-10g RDBMS running on HP-UX, Linux, and Win/2K machines. Company provides highly customized market research and customer care, primarily for top tier foreign automotive manufacturers. Applications consist of reports and Web pages generated by PL/SQL packages and Java that communicate via JDBC with Oracle database servers managing over 1000 tables. Performed DB monitoring and other administrative tasks with the aid of the Oracle Enterprise Manager, and TOAD. Performed tape backups with the HP OpenView Storage Data Protection Manager.
2001 - 2004 DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR: Virtual Supply Chain Engineering. Owings Mills, MD. Performed complete range of DBA activities including installation, configuration, and upgrading of six Oracle10g RDBMS running on five Win/2K machines. Top priority was to provide DBA support for the Virtual Engineer application system created to revolutionize the way large manufacturers manage very complex supply chains. The Virtual Engineer system consists of ASP pages, and COM+ objects written in VisualBasic.NET presented through a Web browser that communicate via OLE DB with an Oracle (v10.1.0) database server managing over 150 tables. Database monitoring and other administrative tasks were performed with the aid of the Oracle Enterprise Manager (v10.1.0), and TOAD. Performed tape backups with the Veritas Backup Exec tool. Also responsible for custodial system/network admin of 18 Win/2K machines.
2000 - 2001 DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR: USinternetworking. Annapolis, MD. Member of a team of six, senior-level, operational DBAs using Tivoli and Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) to monitor and maintain, on a 24x7 basis, 175 Oracle8i databases running on both Unix and NT machines, including several clustered and replicated systems. These high availability systems were ensured by Veritas, MCServiceGuard, or SharePlex.
1998 - 2000 DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR: Riggs National Bank. Washington D.C. Performed complete range of DBA activities including installation, configuration, and upgrading of both the client and server-side components of Oracle’s Designer, Developer and Programmer tools, as well as its Net8 communication software. Responsible for 10 Oracle8 RDBMS running on 6 IBM RS/6000s (AIX) and 1 HP Vectra (NT), as well as the associated client software (Win/NT). Top priority was to provide DBA support for the CASHLINK cash management system created by the bank for the Dept. of Treasury. CASHLINK consists of a Java application presented through a Web browser that communicates via JDBC with an Oracle8 database server managing 50 tables. Users from banks around the world enter financial information and query the system for status reports. Also provided DBA support for other data-based applications including a work flow system for the bank’s telephone service center, payroll, and a small data warehouse of loan info.
1990 – 1998 DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR: NASA. Goddard Space Flight Center. (Hughes STX). Responsible for administration of four Oracle7 RDBMS running on either Sun SPARC (Solaris) or DEC VAX (VMS) systems. Each database comprised 15-20 tables used to store reports and track the status of HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE engineering problems and solutions. Responsibilities included ensuring connectivity via SQL*Net and the Oracle WebServer. Also performed custodial system administration (Unix), and application administration involving reverse-engineering and migrating application code and underlying RDBMS and databases to machines running OS or Oracle versions that differed from the original. Earlier responsibilities included work on large systems performing DBA activities and developing functional requirements, designing, implementing, and documenting various components of the: • EOSDIS Version 0 GSFC DAAC Information Management System (GDAAC IMS) • EOSDIS Version 0 COMMON Information Management System (ESDIS IMS) • EOSDIS SPSO Science Processing Database (SPDB) • NSSDC Optical File Storing and Staging System (NSS) • NSSDC Magnetospheric Science Planning System (SSC)
In addition, served on GDAAC Database Configuration Board authorizing changes to logical and physical design of the GDAAC database comprising over 100 tables used to maintain descriptions of archived earth science data, as well as the status of data requests, user correspondences, file-staging operations, data subsetting operations, other internal system states, data request statistics and software modification reports. Also developed DAAC inventory loading and validation software.
1984 – 1990 DATABASE ADMIN/PROGRAMMER: University of Michigan. Instit. for Social Research. Responsible for full cycle of database design, creation, and administration. Created class registration, client profile, and membership mailing systems using Oracle5 running on a Prime 9955 (Primos); and six social science research catalogs using SPIRES (v.86) running on an IBM 3090 (MTS), including databases created under contract with the Bureau of Justice Statistics, National Institute of Mental Health, and Census Bureau.
