Biography

Daughters of the American Revolution
James Agee Sr. is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A000832.
1776 Project
James Agee Sr. performed Patriotic Service in Virginia in the American Revolution.
James Agee Sr. was a relation of a Huguenot emigrant (1540-1790).

James was the son of Mathieu/Matthew Agee, a Protestant who came from France in 1690 because of the Huguenot persecution. Matthew settled in Virginia and married. They had four children: Isaac, James, Anthony and one daughter who married an Austin. She and Isaac left no heirs.

James married Mary Elizabeth Ford and lived near Maysville, in Buckingham County, Virginia. His farm and his son Joseph’s farm joined and at his death he gave his farm to Joseph. The latter sold both places to Robert Shaw.

James and wife lived together 74 years and both died in 1821, aged respectively 96 and 92 years. His house was a preaching place for 70 years; week-day preaching twice a month and on Sunday by local preachers every two weeks. Bishop Asbury preached at his house. He fed all who came and would stay to eat and yet he would never “eat out.” His home was used as a preaching place as long as Joseph, his son, lived in Virginia.[1]

He was the child of Matthieu Agee and Cecelia Gandovin.[2]

He married Mary Elizabeth Ford in 1746.[3]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:

Hi,

I added the War of 1812 sticker because I noticed the pension in the sources. All that needs to be filled in is listed in the template. The regiment automatically pulls the regiment category if it is already created. It technically is the only one that is mandatory to be entered in but if everything else is known feel free to add it in. Units get the Company with the regiment. Unit is the regiment that adds the person into the profile.

Age-5 and Agee-62 appear to represent the same person because: Duplicate person with same parents, same spouse, same children
