DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:
I believe that William Agnew being listed as a son of this Samuel Agnew was a complete guess. The connection as Samual Agnew being William's father should be removed. The listed father of William Agnew, above Samuel Agnew, was the Samuel Agnew who arrived and died in Pennsylvania was the brother of James Agnew who was born in 1711 and who married Rebecca Scott, second. This Samuel was never in Virgina or South Carolina, for that matter. A descendant of William Agnew who was born about 1755, here mention, is not a close YDNA match with a descendant of James Agnew who was born in 1711 and listed here as William's grandfather. The above William Agnew [b 1755] and died about 1838 had a son Samuel Agnew who married Susan Preston in Virginia. A male Agnew descendant of Samuel & Susan Preston Agnew has taken a YDNA test that shows a very different YNDA pattern then that of the male descendant of James Agnew born in 1711. While they are certainly all Agnew's, they are different branches. I would "guess" that William Agnew Above is a descendant of John Agnew of Dirraw, Ireland who died in 1723 in Ballyclare, Antrim Co., Ireland. He had a son William, but likley not this William. The John Agnew, who died in 1783 in what was later Chester Co., South Carolina, seems also to be of the John Agnew of Ballyclare branch. The key seems to be the "32, 36" value for the STR marker called CDY that appears to occur with the descendants of John Agnew of Ballyclare. The values of the STR makers DYS447 and DYS449 are "26" and "27" and likewise seem to represent the descendants of John Agnew of Ballyclare. The descendant of James Agnew's for these SNP values shows "27" and "26." They are completely different markers and values. John Agnew [d 1723] was James Agnew's [b 1711] uncle.
