Archibald/Archibul Aiken was born 4 October 1790 in the Ninety-six District of South Carolina to Ezekiel Aiken and Sarah McCravey.
Around 1837, he married Martha Bires/Byars. He was 39, she was 17. A son, John, was born in 1838. Other children followed; Lewis (1840), Archibald (1842), Waddy (1844), Hannah (1846) and Enoch (1849).
In 1850, the family was living in Pickens County, South Carolina. They were a farming family. [1]
1870 census finds the family living in Eastatoe Township in Pickens County, S.C. Arch, now 80, was still "farming," on his own property valued at $100. At home were Martha (50), Clayton (18), Francis (14), Willie (12), and Martha (10).[2]
Archibul Aiken died 11 August 1880. He was buried at Old Lake Toxaway Baptist Church Cemetery in Rosman, Transylvania Co, NC. His tombstone reads, "Age at death, 89 years, 10 mos. & 7 days/Father of 24 children." [3]
