Note: 2 2 Ed and Margaret celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on 14 June 1987 with an open house. 2 Served WWII in Japan. Letter sent to Ruth Ainsworth, wife of brother Arlon, from Nagoya, Japan 13 Jan 1946. Edwin relates the following information - "We live in what was once the largest airplane factory in Japan. They made the Mitziubishi bombers and Zeros. Its a large place an covers about five or six square miles. Our bombers have changed things a bit. Six buildings still stand and the rest is nothing but twisted steel. Large bombers are still on the assembly line but the production has ceased. Some of the planes look as if they were in good shape but after we get through with them they won't be. The City of Nagoya was no exception to our bombs. Sixty percent of it is in ruins an about that amount of its population have been killed. After seeing all this we can just thank God it didn't happen back home.". 2 "When we first arrived in Japan we had to change all of our money into Japanese yen. This is how the yen compares to the American dollar. 1 yen = $.067. 15 yen = $1.00. 100 sen = 1 yen. 1000 rin = 1 yen. We have never received an rin yet and I hope we don't. We have all the bills we can carry now. The yen comes in larger denominations then just one. For instants a one hundred yen bill is six dollars an seventy cents". Ed's letter included 1 yen and 50 sen (he said you now have about 50 cents.). 2 Census Research: 2 1920: Lake Odessa, Berlin Twp, Ionia Cty, MI: Roy V. AINSWORTH, 30, owns home, m;.
