Edward Akers was born on 13 June 1888 at Barry, Glamorgan to John Thomas Akers and Elizabeth Boyce. He was baptised on 4th July 1888. [1][2][3]

In 1891, Edward Akers was living at 2 Gueret Street, Cadoxton Juxta Barry. He was living with his parents, John and Elizbeth Akers and 2 siblings, Lily and Mary.[4]

In 1895, Edward attended Holton Road School, Barry. This states he was living at 52 Sydenham Street and attended for 2 years. He left this school on 26 Mat 1900 due to leaving the district.[3]

In 1901, Edward was living at 47 Lombard Street, Barry. He was living with his mother , Elizabeth(father was still alive but not present at the house) and 3 siblings, Mary, Jack and Nellie. [5]

In 1911, Edward joined a union. He started working at Barry railway as a porter.[6]

On the census in 1911, Edward is living at 47 Lombard Street, Barry. He is living with his mum, Elizabeth (father is alive but not present at the time), and 4 siblings, Mayr, Jack Nellie and Patrick. His occupation is a railway porter. [7]

Also in 1911, Edward marries Elizabeth Boobyer. [8]

They had two children during their marriage:

Edward Akers accidentally drowned at Rhyl on 3 June 1915. As reported in Barry Dock News, About 3 months ago, Edward had gone to New Tredegar but after a fortnight when he was taken ill and returned home. After 10 weeks of illness, Edward recovered and enlisted. He had went to Rhyl on Wednesday, 2 June 1915. He had drowned the following day. [9]

Edward Akers was buried at Merthyr Dyfan Cemetery, Barry, plot H. 1253 with full military honours.[10]
