Rhoda Catherine Akers was born in 1855 to Fleming and Nancy (Reed) Akers according to her birth record (but it should be noted that a different date is listed on Find-a-Grave).[1] She is listed in her mother's household on the 1860 Census.[2] She is also listed with her mother on the 1880 Census; but at that time they are living in the household of her brother Jessie with his wife and children.[3] On December 7, 1881 she married Beauford Duncan (1860–1932) in Floyd, Virginia.[4] They are listed together on the 1900 Census with six children[5] prior to her death in June of 1902. She is buried in Duncan Cemetery in Willis, Floyd County, Virginia.[6]
