Birth Record

The beginning dates for Birth records of Montgomery County, Virginia was 1853. Since this individual was born before this time frame other sources of birth need to be checked to give a proper date or estimate a proper time frame for this individual's date of birth.

Ideas for future research: Church Records, Census records (for estimate of years), Death Record (for secondary source of birth or a birth estimate), local history books, military records of father (if applicable) might hold clues.

Death Record

The Clerk of the Circuit Court has Death Records between 1853 and 1871. Need to check census records to see when last census record was available for this individual.

Death Index at Ancestry from 1853 - 1868 - Batch B868789 needs to be checked for any possible matches for parents, Mary, and any unknown children who may have died between census years. Probate records need to be checked for the estate of husband (or will) which might point to when she may have died.

Online search performed on 1 January 2017 at the WV Division of Culture and History site produced no results for a death record for the search string of : Name: Mary LESTER, or Last name: Lester in Raleigh County, WV.[24] There was a Mary E. LESTER who died 14 September 1899 in Raleigh County, WV, but she was the wife of Jeremiah LESTER and her father was listed as W. BREWER. There was a Mary LESTER who died on 22 December 1928 in Raleigh County, WV, but this was for a stillborn baby. There was a Mary Lou LESTER who died on 30 July 1935 in Raleigh County, WV, but again this individual was listed as being only 1 year of age. These three individuals could not be the target individual for this death record search.

Ideas for search: Check to see where each known child settled and see if she may have moved to be with a child who would care for her in her old age and thus died in a different location.

Husband reported to have died 27 December 1882 in Raleigh County, West Virginia.
