Research Progress

The confusion of parentage is probably due to naming practices of the time. Records will have to be checked for clues to determine which Blackburn AKERS was actually his father and to determine the identity of his actual mother.

Birth Date of Adam AKERS, Sr.

1820 Census contains oldest male aged 26 to 45 Years.[2] This allows birth estimate of 1775 to 1794.
Earl AKERS stated his mother was Susannah BLACKBURN (b. 1730; d. 1785). She would have been about 55 years old at the time of her death. The current average childbirthing years are from 12 to 51 years. If Susannah BLACKBURN was his mother her average childbearing years should have fallen between 1742 and 1781. Other researchers have listed children born to Blackburn AKERS, Sr. and Susannah BLACKBURN from 1758 to 1774. It is believed that Adam AKERS, Sr. was their last born child so it is probable that he was born between 1774 and 1781 although there is a notable gap in the birth dates of their children between 1766 and 1772.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Adam by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Adam:

Akers-933 and Akers-917 appear to represent the same person because: Same parents, about same birth date. One date of death is about 1850 and other is after 1840. Certainly needs more research and source citations need to be taken from free site like FamilySearch, but they appear to be in reference to the same individual.
