Research

Birth:
The 1830 United States Federal Census Record lists a Robert AKERS as the head of his household in Patrick County, Virginia.[2] The oldest free white male living in the household is marked in the column denoting a 20 to 30 year old.
Robert AKERS' wife filed a widow's pension for her husband's service in the War of 1812. The index card for this pension application stated that he was enlisted on 4 February in either 1814 or 1815.
The marriage bond of Robert AKERS to Rebecca HOLLINGSWORTH in December 1814 only has permission given by Rebecca's mother, Sarah CRADDOCK, with no mention of the parents of Robert AKERS. It was common for the permission of parents to be given for anyone under the legal age to marry. This could mean that Robert was over the. Legal age of consent at the time of his marriage.
Death:
An index card for the War of 1812 Widows Pension filed by Mrs. Rebecca (HOLLINGSWORTH) AKERS[3] stated that she was the widow of Robert AKERS and that Robert died on 15 March 1854 in Lawrence County, Virginia. However, the index also stated that their residence was in Lawrence County, Kentucky in 1853 and Rebecca was living in Lawrence County, Ohio in 1856. This brings into question the state in which Robert AKERS died. The death records of Lawrence County, Kentucky for the year of 1854 was searched on a page by page listing on 14 November 2021 and no listing was located for anyone with the AKERS surname.
Robert AKERS does not appear to have been enumerated with his wife in the 1850 census record.[4] It is currently unknown why Rebecca was living with Francis MORROW in 1850.
Marriage:
Rebecca (HOLLINGSWORTH) AKERS listed on her widows pension application[3] that she married Robert AKERS on 18 December 1813 or 24 March 1814 in Patrick County, Virginia.
A Sarah CRADDOCK gave permission for her daughter, Rebecca HOLLINGSWORTH to marry Robert AKERS on 6 December 1814 in Patrick County, Virginia.[5] The marriage bond application was obtained by Robert AKERS and James CRADDOCK on 4 December 1814 in Patrick County, Virginia.[5] It seems likely that Robert AKERS and Rebecca HOLLINGSWORTH would have been married shortly after Rebecca's mother gave her permission to marry. But that time frame conflicts with both given dates of marriage on the widow's pension application.[3]
