Biography

1776 Project

Henry Albright aged sixty four years was buried at St-Andrews in the Seignory of Argenteuil 5 APR 1820 in presence of Martin Albright.[1]

Research notes

Fought in the American Revolution. Though not a loyalist had loyalist leanings.

This 4x great grandfather came to Canada to fight in the England/US War of Independence. He WAS NOT in a canoe with an indian with his son falling out & being rescued, etc. as suggested in one book tho it could have been the other Heinrich. Released from military service in 1793. Some question about his birth with some saying it was 1756. He married a sister of a Loyalist Mary [Maitje] CARKNER (KIRCHNER)) in Giliad, Rensselar, NY.

There are two possibilities for this chap 1 S#18P5; Albrecht, Heinrich, Brunswick soldier, born Salzadahlum, 31 in 1783 (now 38302, Wolfenbuettel-Salzahlum, age 31, 09 1746/47) Discharged in Montreal in 1783 - OR

S#1P55:Albrecht, Heinr. Brunswick troops, Born Salzdahlum, aged 31 years 9 months, discharged in Montreal 1783, Regt Barner Leib Co. (WB) born Salzthal, Brunswich, Barner. Col's co age 31 5'6 1/2" , 6 years & 6 months service.

Land Petitions: Dated 1796 in Montreal, National Archives, Microfilm, C-2504 RG1 L3L Vol 29 #15556/57 - this is written in German - Military Discharge of Henry Albrecht for land, Montreal 24 Mar 1796. Petition rejected, no land available where requested. Microfilm C-2493 RGl L3l Vol l, Folio 360, Petition of Henry Albrecht of Montreal, 24 March 1796 for 1200 acres in Ts of Farnham or Clifton. [age is out by 6 yrs]

From the book "The Reverand Richard Bradford" "At a service in the St Andrews School on Sunday November 24, 1805, Mr. Bradford baptized Clarrisa, the daughter of Henry Albright and his wife Mary Cartner. Clarissa was born August 13, 1805 and was the first child baptized by Mr. Bradford in the Seingniory of Argenteuil. The sponsors were Joseph Brown, Lucy Brush and Ann Jenkins all of the Seigniory. Henry was a United Empire Loyalist of German descent, who came from Montreal at the beginning of the American Revolution. He moved to "The Bay" Settlemnt south east of St Andrews sometime before 1800' NOTES: The above is not entirely true as Henry was not a UEL but rather a retired soldier from Germany (Prussia?) who fought in the War of Independence against the US with the British.

Believe our Henry was born 1747 but…… Still have not got around to researching in Germany or "Prussia" - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Prussia

Am unsure if this is him or not: http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/land/land-petitions-lower-canada-1764-1841/Pages/image.aspx?Image=e003702388&URLjpg=http%3a%2f%2fcentral.bac-lac.gc.ca%2f.item%2f%3fid%3de003702388%26op%3dimg&Ecopy=e003702388
