Biography

Leland Albury is part of a Bahamian family.

Leland was born in 1911 in Key West, Monroe County, Florida. He was the son of Roland Albury and Mamie Whitmarsh. His siblings were Laura, Esmond, and an unnamed sister who died at birth.

In 1930, the family was living at 1016 Georgia Street in Key West, Florida.^[1] They were still in Key West in 1935, but Leland was living with his brother, Esmond, next door to their grandfather Davis and Aunt Flossie. They were both listed as owners of the home, working as spongers, and had 9th grade educations.^[2]

Leland married Beulah Albury on 06 Mar 1937 in Florida.^[3] They were living with her parents, John and Mary Walker, in Key West, Florida, in 1940. Leland was called Leon in the census. He was working as a carpenter at the time, and they had one child, Paultette.^[4]. By 1945, they were still living on Watson street with his father-in-law and family. He and Beulah had two children by then - Leland Jr and Paulette.^[5] He was still working as a carpenter.

Leland passed away in 1975 in Key West, Florida.^[6][7] I suspect he is buried in the Key West cemetery, but his grave has not been memorialized as of yet. His wife and son share a headstone in the Key West cemetery.^[8]
