Biography

William Alchin was born in Kent, the son of Ambrose Alchin and Ann. ^[1] He came to Australia with his parents and siblings in 1838 on the Palmyra. ^[2][3]

He married twice and had 17 children. ^[3] The children were:-

William passed away in 1913 at Chain of Ponds, Gunning, having lived there ever since he came to Australia. He was aged 86 when he died.^[4][3]

Thomas-7679 05:24, 13 December 2019 (UTC) Regarding children: If Obituary is correct and William had 17 children, one child's birth apparently wasn't registered. In addition,

William b 1856 - death not located (not the William who died in 1936 at Murrumburrah)

John - supposedly died in 1876 but no record located. Possible death 1942, Forbes (parents unknown)

Sydney b 1869 - no death record located

Emily b 1876 - no death record located

Mary Jane b 1883 (birth registered in 1884, so probably the Mary Jane born in Dec 1883)

Searches done on Trove for death of parents and siblings, to see if any other siblings are mentioned on death notices, with no success.
