Biography
Rebecca, daughter of William and Susannah Alcock was baptised at St Mary's church, Whissonsett, Norfolk, England on 15th November 1818. Her father is a labourer [1].
Rebecca married James Preston, a shoemaker at St Andrew's church, Longham, Norfolk on 15th November 1838 [2].
Their children were John (baptised 7th July 1844 at St Andrew, Longham[3], Robert baptised 19 July 1846 [4], Thomas. baptised at the Primitive Methodist Chapeel at Mattishall, when the family was living in Beeston [5], Herbert baptised on 11th April 1861, with the family still at Beeston [6]. Rebecca baptised 14th September 1861 atthe Primitive Methodist chapel, Mattishall (James is here a cordwainer rather than a shoemaker, and the officiant is "William Rudderham. ( Leather Shoemaker)" - the inferance is that James made boots, or boots and shoes [7].
In 1861 the family were living in Syers Road, Beeston [8].
In 1871 the family were living in the same street. James is now a Master Shoemaker [9].
Rebecca died aged 86, and her death was registered in the Norwich District in the June quarter of 1902 [10].
