Biography

Esther was born in 1859, the daughter of Robert Alcock and Rachel Munsey.

She married Simeon Elgin Althouse in 1876. Their marriage record reads:

Simeon Elgin Althouse, 26, born and residing in Saltfleet Township, bachelor, farmer, son of Simeon & Harriott (sic) Althouse, married

Esther Emma Alcock, 17, born and residing Smithville, spinster, daughter of Robert and Rachel Alcock,

Witnesses: James H. Althouse, Mary C. Althouse, Smithville,

On December 25, 1876, at Smithville, Grimsby, Lincoln, Ontario.

Together they had the following children:

1. Ida Annie, married William Martin Sheldrake
2. Laura Etta, married William Tweedle
3. Ethel May Rae, married William Patterson
4. Ina Victoria, married Erford Mathias Enos

Esther died on April 7, 1926 at the Mount Hamilton Hospital, in Hamilton, Ontario. She died from pneumonia and influenza in her 67th year. Her date of birth was given as June 29, 1859, and her parents were reported as Robert Alcock, born England, and Rachel Munsey, also born England. The informant on Esther's death record was Mrs. Wm. Tweedle, her daughter, of Tweedside, Ontario.

Simeon predeceased her in 1923. They were buried together at Tapleytown Cemetery, in Tapleytown, Ontario.
