Biography

Henry Alcock born about1735, son of William Alcock and Mary Loftus. [1] [2] [3][4]

Henry Alcock of Wilton, co. Wexford, Esq. married 1 June 1764, to Philippa Melosina Chenevix, dau. of Rt. Rev. Richard Chenevix, the Bishop of Waterford, and had issue a son, who, with his mother, died on 14 May 1765.

Henry Alcock of Wilton, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, landowner and MP for Waterford city (1783–1797) and Fethard, Co. Wexford (1797–9), married 2nd on 6 Sept 1766 to to Elizabeth Catherine Ussher, daughter of Beverley Ussher of Kilmeadan, co Waterford, (who for twenty-six years represented the co. Waterford in parliament,) by Elizabeth Shuldham, dau. of Edmond Shuldham of Dunmanway, County Cork, Ireland. [5]

  3. William Congreve born 1771 succeeded his father in 1811
  4. Henry succeeded his brother
  5. Eliza Jane
  6. Mary Anne
  7. Henrietta married in Jan 1804 to James Wallace of Waterford

Henry Alcock's politics were liberal: he was a captain in a Waterford Volunteer corps and generally voted with the opposition, supporting parliamentary reform and catholic emancipation.

Henry Alcock was MP for Waterford in the Irish Parliament and was succeeded in turn by two of his sons.

Henry Alcock passed away in 1811.
