Ippolito Aldobrandini was born on 24 February 1536 and died on 3 March 1605. He came from a prominent Florentine family.[1]
He was ordained a priest in 1580 (aged 45) and consecrated a bishop on 2 February 1592 by Alfonso Gesualdo di Conza. He was created a Cardinal on 18 December 1585 by Pope Sixtus V. He was elected pope on 30 January 1592.
