Biography

There is no evidence that James Stewart, the husband of Janet Alexander was James Stewart, 5th Earl of Galloway, please do no re-attach him to this profile.

James Stewart and his lawful spouse Jenat Alexander are listed in Campbeltown Parish, Argyllshire, as having two sons;

1. John Stewart, born 5 February 1692
2. James Stewart, born 11 November 1694

There are also records for a John Stuart, and James Stuart of the same parish and exactly the same dates but parents are given as James Stuart and Jenat Eshinor. Whereas the previous records are for births, these appear to be for baptisms, and are in a different handwriting.

Births and baptisms in the same time period in Campbeltown parish also have duplicate entries under the surnames of Alexander and Eshinor.^[1],^[2]

If these are elder children then the marriage would have taken place about 1690, but at this stage no more information has been found for Janet Alexander, or her husband and sons.
