John S. Alexander was born on August 21, 1838 in Des Moines, Iowa Territory, son of Urbane Alexander (1813–1853) and Mary Ann Drennan (1811–1854).
In 1850, John (11) was living in Fannin, Texas with his mother, Mary A (38); and E Alexander (39), R J Alexander (13), Jno S Alexander (11), S A Alexander (9), M M Alexander (7), and Thos O Alexander (5). [1]
John (30) married Texanna Tallaferro (1867) on August 21, 1868. Their children were:
