John Alexander was born on January 24, 1806 in Vinalhaven, Knox County, Maine, the son of Henry Alexander. [1]
John was the first born child of Henry Alexander and Mercy (Beverage) Alexander, who had five children. Mercy died in childbirth with their last child, Ezekiel, in 1817. His father remarried and had more children. John Alexander married Hannah Randall Crocket on 7 February 1842 in Vinalhaven, Knox, Maine. [2] [3] They had four children: James B., 1843; Ezekiel, 1845; George A., 1848; and Sarah M., 1850. [4] [5]
The John Alexander family lived in North Haven, Maine. All members of the family were born in Maine. They owned their house. In 1850, John, 43, was a fisherman. His wife Hannah was 31. The two eldest children, James, 7, and Ezekiel, 5, were in school. George was two years old. [6] In 1860, John, 54, was a farmer. His wife Hannah was 42. James, 17, and Ezekiel, 15, were both fishermen, as well as in school. George, 12, and Sarah 10, were in school. [7]
John Alexander died on 27 February 1861, aged 55. He is buried with his parents, step mother, at least ten of his siblings, and his son, George (1847-1917) at Seaview Cemetery, North Haven, Maine. [8] [9]
