Biography

Rebecca Belle was one of 10 children born to Robert T. Alexander and hisf first wife, Minerva Farney. She was born in Scioto Township, Jackson County, Ohio, as was her sister Malinda.(Aunt Silvy got the location wrong by saying the family moved to Scioto County, Ohio), Her other eight siblings were born in Kentucky. In 1850s,the family lived in Ohio,but by 1860, they moved back to Kentucky. She also had 4 half-siblings: Robert T. III, Andrew Jackon, Ida May, and Charles, all born in Kentucky.

Henry married Rebecca in Greenup County, Kentucky on July 9,1873. Other than the information from the descendant of Maggie Hughey below, John Wesley Hughey (born 1869) has not been documented to be a child of Rebecca Belle. Otherwise, she and Henry had six children: Maggie, Robert Franklin ("Frank"), Sally Belle, William Edward ("Ed"), Stella May,and Mary Jane in Kentucky. Rebecca and Robert Lee had two, Roscoe General, and Ida May in Michigan. Maggie married three times, Frank, Ed, and Robert T. Alexander III married the Profitt sisters, John Wesley and Sally Belle married Anes siblings, Stella married Reuben Webb, and Mary Jane married Lude Lowery. She remained married to Henry till 1887.

In May of that year,she married Robert Lee Barnett. Of her two Barnett children: Roscoe married Pearl Jamerson and Ida married Hibert Rogers. Moved to Mancelona, Michigan, with 2nd husband, Robert Lee Barnett. Many of their relatives also moved to northern Michigan to find jobs. Henry and his married daughter, Sally Belle Aines continued living in Kentucky.

Biographical Sketch

As posted by a descendant of Maggie Hughey: "I don't know too much about this person, my great-great Grandmother. She was first married to John Henry Hughey, second to Robert Barnett. I believe her parents' names were Robert Alexander and Maneva Hughey. Her children with John Hughey were: John W., b. Dec. 16, 1869; Maggie, born April 23, 1874; Robert Franklin, b. Oct. 23,1876 in Carter County,Kentucky; Sellie Belle, b. May 21, 1879; William Edward, b. Oct. 25,1881; Stellie Mae, b. Feb. 28, 1883; Mary Jane b. March 13, 1885. Maggie was my great-Grandmother and born in Greenup, Kentucky. . . Siblings of Rebecca Bell Alexander were Lucy, Florence, Furman, and Henry. I do not have documentation for this. It was given to me by my aunt, a fellow genealogist." Identification of source person unknown as is the identity of her aunt, but both were related to Rebecca Belle Alexander through Maggie Hughey."

The 1910 Census information included with the above supplemental information appears to be a mix up between Rebecca S. Hughey and Rebecca B. Hughey. In addition, it identifies Henry Hughey "John Henry" Hughey, a name which I have seen before. Nevertheless, I have not verified that his full name was, indeed, John Henry Hughey. Only the name Henry Hughey appears on the 1880 Census Report.
