Josiah Alexander was a North Carolina colonist.

According to descendants, this Josiah Alexander was born in 1740 in Cecil County, Maryland.[source needed] Descendants claim the Alexander family in Maryland was a Presbyterian, Scotch- Irish family some of whom migrated to Pennsylvania, and then to Mecklenburg, North Carolina in the mid eighteenth century.[1]

Josiah Alexander of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina wrote his Last Will and Testament on the 28th of June 1776 noting among other things:

constitute Jas. Alexander my cousin & Aron Alexander my brother Executors…wife, Elizabeth…among my children Josiah Alexander, Deborah Alexander, Mary Alexander & Elizabeth Alexander & Squire Alexander…to Josiah my son this plantation on which I live but his mother is to have the place in order to maintain the children while she remains unmarried…if marries to Josiah my Eldest son…and if she never marries it shall be at his disposal at 18 years of age and Josiah shall pay his younger brother Squire 20 pounds when of age and each of his sisters Deborah & Mary & Elizabeth five pound when of age and I order Josiah to be put to learning of ye language when of a proper age…signed in the presence of George Ross, Jen Braden, Rebeca Morgan[2]
