Things were peaceful for nearly 20 years when the Revolutionary War commenced and James enlisted. He was a sergeant in the beginning of the war but returned to school and and completed his study of medicine, becoming a doctor, and later a surgeon, working in the Waxhaw Settlements, South Carolina, and in Charlotte, NC. In 1780 he was appointed Surgeon in Colonel William L. Davidson's North Carolina regiment, until sometime in 1781.[4][5][6]

Alexander-22736 and Alexander-5394 appear to represent the same person because: Obviously lthe same man; I have just added a few facts, like the fact that he was a medical doctor and served during the Revolution.
