DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Alger-698 and Alger-345 appear to represent the same person because: same spouse

I believe there is a generation between John III Alger (1755-?) and John I & Johanna King Alger. Johanna would have been 76 years old at John's birth.

Find A Grave lists John II Alger and Martha Packard as John's Parents and John and Johanna as his grandparents. I haven't been able to confirm Martha Packard but am sure that John II fits between John I and John III
