Patricia Erickson said she remembered her father saying his father traded their land in Texas for the land at Spur Lake, sigh unseen, because Leona Jane had tuberculosis and her doctor had advised Theodore Edward to take her to a high, dry climate. They had been at Spur Lake for about a year when my father and Theodore made a trip back to Texas to collect the rest of their belongings. Leona died while they were away and there was no way to get word to them so all the funeral arrangements were made by Charles and Essie. My father and grandfather didn't get back for another two weeks and were met on the road by a neighbor who gave them the news."
