Richard Allen, gentleman of London married Mary Hedd, the daughter of Henry Hedd, the late Sheriff of London. [1]
Richard and Mary had three sons and two daughters [1]:-
Richard joined one the Great Twelve livery companies, the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers. At the time Haberdashers were principally traders in silks and velvet and other expensive imported cloth. Richard inherited his father’s property at Outwell and most of his London houses. Richard bought further land and buildings in London, in Carter Lane, Philip Lane and Gorell Lane, and in the 1530s he also acquired a house and various parcels of land in Eardisland, Burton, Leominster and Middleton in Herefordshire. When in London Richard lived at various times in St John Street, Clerkenwell, and later in a house in ‘Little Baylie’, which was near the Tower of London. Overall the picture is of a very wealthy and successful man. Richard was buried at St Martin Ludgate on 2 January 1558/59.
