Confederate Veteran of Waverly Passes
John J. B. Allen, aged 86 years, well-known and respected citizen and Confederate veteran, died at his home in Waverly last Sunday morning at 1 o'clock after an illness covering a period of three or four weeks.
Uncle John, as he was familiarly known by the people of the Waverly community, was a fixture in the hearts of the people, having been active in all matters of public concern in his younger days and recognized as an authority on matters of history as it related to that community. He was a scholar, loved history and a conversation soon led to the events of the Civil War. He had lived in Waverly and community all his life and had acquired considerable property as a farmer.
Funeral services were held for the deceased from the Methodist church on Tuesday of this week and interment was in the Waverly Cemetery at 10 o'clock with Rev. W. M. McDonald officiating. Six grandsons of the deceased served as pallbearers.
Children who survive the deceased are: Scott Allen, of Louisville, Ky.; John Allen, of Camp Hill; Mrs. Carrie Simmons, of Nashville; Mrs. G. G. Nunn, Auburn; Mrs. Jessie Dunn, Goodwater; Miss Kate Allen, Birmingham, and Mrs. Bell Latham, of Waverly, and with whom the deceased was living at the time of his death.

Many of my family are buried at Waverly including my great grandparents, John Henry SImmons and Emma Pearl Saxon. Also are my great great granparents, William J. and Carrie Minter Saxon. My great great great grandparents Henry Saxon and is wife Ruth Acree Saxon are also buried there and Carrie MInter Saxon's mother, Amanda Day Minter. I did a survey of the cemetery and found many Confederate soldiers buried there. One of which was John Judson Allen, I have added information to his profile and give honor to him.
