Research Notes

No evidence of a William Allen with these parents born in Glasgow in the 1630s. There is a record for William Allen son of John Allen and Janet Richie baptised Glasgow in 1645.

The marriage information on this profile is incorrect. On 28 April 1649 a marriage took place at St Bride's Fleet St, London between William Alling and Judith Begley [1] not William Allen and Judith Bayley. The image of the parish register is available to view on Ancestry and the names are quite clear. [2]

This family is documented in the work of Diana Jean Muir, but a cursory review of the work includes no sourcing for this family.[3]

Another source without primary sourcing documented that makes specific claims about court cases and wills, so there should be sources that are not referenced:

"William the son of William Sr and wife Judith (unknown) of York Co. and the grandson of John Allen and Janet Rodgers of Glasgow, Scotland. It appears that William Sr was the first of this family to come to Virginia. John the grandfather is thought to have stayed in Scotland. This line of Allens has been confused with the other William Allen of Virginia. William Sr died 1677 when his son was only six years old. His mother, Judith married (2) to William Bayley. When William Allen reached adulthood he filed suit against his mother for land that had belonged to his father, William Sr. and was awarded two thirds of the land, the other third going to the Judith Bayley. William married Ann (unknown) about 1690 in VA. He was a planter in York Co. William left his will in York Co., and stated he was in good health and sound mind. He died 15 June 1713 at the age of forty two, why so young if in good health?

As per the comment below - still in the absence of any sources - William has been detached again from his spurious parents. John Allen and Janet Rogers. Please read the research notes for why this is the case.

I detached William's imaginary parents. If you know of any primary source documentation for William's origin, please add it to the profile.

Allen-14954 and Allen-13306 appear to represent the same person because: They have the same relatives and close dates.
