Birth: Winnie Allen was born Aug 20, 1816 in Cocke County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Abraham Allen (1794-1844) and an unknown first wife who died soon after Winnie's birth.[1]
Winnie in her childhood moved to Ray County, Missouri, and then back to Cocke County, Tennesse.
Marriage: She married Martin Lewis in the 1830's and they lived near the Wilton Springs/English Mt. area south of Newport, Tennessee.

1840 Census, Cocke County, Tennessee:[3] This census is only a tally. However with 1 male under 5, one male between 20 - 30 years old and one female 20 - 30 years old, it may represent Winnie and her family.
1850 Census, District 11, Cocke County, Tennessee:[2] Winnie age 31 and Martin age 37 live with their children on a property they own. Martin is a farmer.
1860 Census, District 8, Cocke County, Tennessee:[4] Winnie age 42 and Martine age 47 continue to own real estate. Martin's occupation is listed as laborer. John Taylor age 16 is also living in the home.
The family decided to move to Collin County, Texas in 1867, moving to a place where a number of their Tennessee neighbors had moved before.
1870 Census, Precinct 3, Collin County, Texas:[5] Winnie is now listed as age 57 and Martin as age 56. Frelinghuysen age 20, "Crockett" age 17, and Tipton age 12 are the only children still living with their parents. Martin no longer owns real estate, but is working as a farm laborer.
1880 Census, Precint 6, Collin County, Texas:[6] The couple does not own real estate. It appears Martin has retired as no occupation is listed. Their 20 year old son Allen; his wife May; their daughter 1 year old Maud; and their son Turner born in Feb 1880 are living with them as is a cousin, 19 year old Marvill Williams. The only person in the household with an occupation is Allen who is farm laborer.
Winnie and Martin had a number of children and settled down in the Rhea Mills area, northwest of McKinney in Texas.
Death and Burial: Winnie and Martin made a will four days before her death on 20 Jul 1881 in Rhea Mills, Texas per Find A Grave which includes much of this biography. Winnie shares the same stone with Martin on the far southwest side of the Walnut Grove cemetery toward the back side of the cemetery on the southwest edge near the gate to the road. The Walnut Grove location is on Custer Road nine miles west and two north of McKinney, Texas. There are a number of other Lewis relatives and surname families in the cemetery which also date back to Cocke County, Tennessse.[1]

-Winnie's father's picture (Abraham Allen) is in Ray County. Missouri. [7]
-But, I haven't been able to find her birth mother.
-Winnie's mother died young, and Abraham married a 2nd time to a woman possibly named Elizabeth (Frakes) (Allen) Cummons that was born in 1805.
-Since Winnie was born in 1816, this person would be Abraham's second wife.
-Winnie's paternal grandmother (Sitchie Pitman Clevenger Elsie (Clevenger) Allen) is up in the Clevenger Cemetery in Cocke County, Tennessee for those who want to see it on Find A Grave. Sitchie Pitman Clevenger died in 1847 in Cocke County. Tennessee.
