North Byron, Feb 1 - Allen Darch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Darch of Byron, and Miss Nellie Bird, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bird of Clarendon, were married last Thursday evening at the Methodist parsonage in Holley. They were unattended. A pre-nuptial event was a variety shower given by Mrs. Hugh Butcher. Mr. and Mrs. Darch will live with the groom’s parents until spring., when they will begin housekeeping in a house on Mr. Darch’s parents’ farm.

Mr. and Mrs. Ray Darch of the Upper Holley Rd. will hold open house next Sunday afternoon, Dec 23, in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary. The hours are from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and all of their friends are invited.
Carrie Allen and Ray Darch were married on Christmas Eve in 1901, at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Allen, on the Power Line Road. Their attendants were Miss Ida Cassell of Rochester and Edward Allen, brother of the bride. The clergyman was the Rev. Joseph Weston, pastor of the Holley Baptist Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Darch are true natives of this area and have never felt the urge to leave this section of the country. Mrs. Darch, one of eight children in the Allen family, was born on the homestead on the Power Line Rd. and lived there until her marriage. Mr. Darch, who was the only child in his family, was born on a farm on the Upper Holley Rd. When he was a child his parents moved to another farm on the same road in the Town of Byron and they lived there until he was married. Then his parents moved a short distance away and Mr. Darch brought his bride to the old homestead, and they have lived there for the half-century of their married life. Mr. Darch has always been a farmer, and although he now rents the farm, he manages to find enough to do to keep busy all the time.
They have one son, Allen Darch of Byron: three granddaughters, Eileen (Mrs. Gerald Robinson of Clarendon), Jeanette (Mrs. Lawrence Goodwin of Oakfield) and Elaine at home; and two great-granddaughters, Diane Robinson and Sheryl Goodwin.
