Parthenia Allen was born in 1845 at her parents' home in Virginia, United States. She was the daughter of Thomas Allen (1822-) and his wife, Mary [Unknown] Allen. On the June 1850 US Census, Parthenia Allen was enumerated as a 5-year-old white female, living with her parents: Thomas & Mary Allen, 28 and 32 years old, both born in Virginia, and 3 siblings (1 brother; 2 sisters) in Culpepper Court House, Culpepper County, Virginia, USA. Thomas Allen was called a "Laborer," implying he did not own his land and worked for others. No farm or personal effects value was included.[1]
Ten years later the 1860 US Census recorded Parthenia Allen as 16 years old, single, still living with her parents, said to be 40 and 39 years old, respectively, and now 4 siblings, aged 17 to 8 years old, still in Culpepper Court House, Culpepper County, Virginia. USA. Her father, Thomas Allen was still called a Laborer and his personal effects were valued at $100 US dollars. [2]
