On 23 November 1732 he married Mary Packard in Bridgewater.[2] They had 10 children: Nathaniel, James Jr., Ruth, Bethiah, Susanna, Jesse, Bethia, Caleb, Silas, Hannah.
James died 18 January 1782 in Bridgewater.[3]He is buried at First Cemetery, Bridgewater, Plymouth, MA
