Biography

Son of Henry & Easter Wells


Married Frances Mourning Blackshear 4 Jan 1853 Henry, AL - parents of Sarah, William, Easter Malissa, James David & Martha Ella

Civil War Soldier Pvt, Co A, 6th Regiment, AL Infantry, CSA - Killed at the Battle of Seven Pines, also known as Battle of Fair Oaks in Richmond, VA (this was one of the bloodiest battles of the war and involved 84,000 troops). Matthew was shot in the stomach and died on the battlefield. His body was buried at the Seven Pines Battlefield. His youngest child was born after he died and his wife died two years later.
