Military

Joseph Allen, Jr., born 04 September 1727 in Windsor, Connecticut, died 08 October 1801 in East Windsor, Hartford, Connecticut, and his wife Lois Burnham, born 23 February 1728, are honored for patriotism during the American Revolution: 1) SELECTMAN, 1776; TOOK OATH OF FIDELITY, 1777; GRAND JUROR, 1777. Their daughter Lois Allen, born 13 September 1751, married Simeon Barber.[1]

Marriage

Joseph Allen Jr. married Lois Burnham on January 17, 1755 in Windsor, Connecticut. Both were residents of Windsor, Connecticut. [2]


Joseph Allen resided in East Windsor, Connecticut. He worked as a farmer. According to Willard Allen's genealogy: "Joseph held office under King Geo. the III. He was drafted during the Revolutionary War, but sent his son Joseph as a substitute. He was sometimes called Sargeant Joseph." [3]

From FAG: Joseph Allen, Esq, son of Joseph and Mary (Hewlet) Allen, was born 4 September 1727. He had seven known siblings: Hannah, Noah, David, Samuel, Hezekiah, Mary and Dorcas.

He was a farmer and held office under King George III. On 17 January 1755, Joseph married Lois Burnham, daughter of Capt. Michael and Lois (Wise) Burnham. He was drafted during the revolutionary war, but sent his son Joseph as a substitute (Source: Genealogy of Samuel Allen of Windsor Connecticut and Some of His Descendants, by Willard S. Allen, printed 1876).

Joseph and Lois had ten known children, all born in East Windsor, CT: 1. Lois Allen, born 13 September 1751, married Simeon Barber. 2. Joseph Allen, born 21 August 1753, died 12 October 1757. 3. Asenath Allen, born 17 February 1756, married Edward Chapin and later Eldad Parsons, Esq. 4. Eunice Allen, born 18 March 1758, married James Burnham. 5. Hannah Allen, born 2 March 1760, married Roswell Prior. 6. Joseph Allen, born 23 March 1762, married Lucy Chapin. 7. Benjamin Allen, born 19 June 1764, married Miriam Thompson. 8. Asher Allen, Esq, born 22 September 1766, married Chloe Moody. 9. Anna Allen, born 9 March 1769, married James Thompson. 10. Henry Allen, born 18 March 1771, married Mary Wells.

Joseph Allen, Esq, died on 8 October 1808, in East Windsor, Connecticut, age 81 years, and was buried in Scantic Cemetery.
