Joseph Allen son of Maria Allen married Jane Hancock daughter of Thomas Hancock and Mary Ann Hancock, 13 Feb 1893 , St Austell, Cornwall. [2]
Joseph smoked a Meersham pipe, thought to have been brought over from American from his brother Pal or his son Hart. Molly remembered, when the pipe was nice and hot Joseph would hold on to the bowl with his fingers and with a upward shroke of his thumb across the bowl he would shine it like a cat's tail in the moonlight. Joseph did not drink, he was very industrious and a hard worker. He was a reserved and quiet man. He had blue eves that twinkled, a runny complexion, that looked fresh and it looked like he might have had red hair when he was younger. The family was not musical but they had a gram-a-phone and played 'Maid in the Mountains' Joseph was a carpenter. Molly remembers a table he made. It had a removable top, one side with a scrub top and the other for show, the good side. Joseph would go to work in a donkey shay Joseph worked washing tin from the stamps (cakes) at Buckey Pit as a young man. [3]
